Margaret E.
Hurley, M.D., founded Hurley Consulting in 1987. As President and Chief Executive Officer,
she is responsible for the general management of the company known for its analytical
thinking. She has overall responsibility for the company's product quality. She has
directed the development of the company's expertise, computer systems, and the design and
implementation of the quality process.
Dr. Hurley is recognized as an expert in
drug development. She has therapeutic experience in drugs, biologics, diagnostic agents,
and devices in many areas including cardiovascular and renal, endocrinology and
metabolism, reproductive health, arthritis, genitourinary, oncology, anti-infectives,
pulmonary-allergy, peripheral and central nervous system, anesthetics and life-support,
antivirals, gastroenterology, and dental. Dr. Hurley has directed the development of data
packages for simultaneous submission in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
Before establishing Hurley Consulting, Dr.
Hurley was Director, Cardiovascular Drug Development at Ciba-Geigy from 1983 to 1987. In
this position, she was responsible for Phase I through Phase III clinical research
including the development of ACE inhibitors. She coordinated international global
development projects and supervised CRO activities. Dr. Hurley was responsible for the
technical assessment and drug development strategy to achieve commercial objectives for
eight strategic plans. In conjunction with a task force, she developed and implemented a
plan to automate the Drug Development Department, and was chairperson of the Office
Automation Standards and Procedures Committee. Dr. Hurley began her career in industry at
Ciba-Geigy as Assistant Director, Cardiovascular Drug Development. Before entering the
pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Hurley was the Medical Director of the Hemodialysis Unit at
Bellevue Hospital Center, New York.
Since 1982, Dr. Hurley has served as a
part-time Instructor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. Prior to this,
she was a full-time Instructor of Medicine and teaching assistant. From 1978 through 1979
she was a National Kidney Foundation Fellow, and from 1977 through 1979 she was a Fellow
in Nephrology at New York University. Dr. Hurley was a Resident and Intern in Internal
Medicine at New York University from 1974 to 1977. Dr Hurley holds a medical degree from
The Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a bachelor's degree
in chemistry from Fordham University, Bronx, New York.
